A $150,000 Alcoa Foundation grant will fund a new workforce skill development program at Eastern Iowa Community College (USA). The program—an extension of the college district’s existing Career Link Essentials+ program—will help low-income and minority residents transition into the workplace.

Booz Allen Hamilton

Booz Allen Hamilton is hiring across the country even during the economic crisis. They have over 1,000 job postings on their website in a number of different areas.

CVS/Caremark

CVS/Caremark is stepping up it’s “Building Futures” program.  Their Workforce Initiatives team works with hundreds of nonprofits, schools, faith-based organizations and government agencies to find people who want to work, but who face barriers such as a disability, lack of education or age. They then offer job skills training and work experience, as well as vocational and career advancement opportunities through a variety of programs.

Hewlett-Packard

The Graduate Entrepreneurship Training through IT (GET-IT) program seeds entrepreneurial energy and develops business and IT skills in young people and recent graduates, age 16-25. Operating in 25 countries, GET-IT comprises a network of 70 training centers in communities with low-income areas, high unemployment rates and limited access to job opportunities.

Jobs 4 Recovery is a  free service provided by the Business Civic Leadership Center and IBM that provides easy access to job opportunities in U.S. communities.

Microsoft

Microsoft has launched Elevate America, an initiative designed to provide 1 million vouchers for Microsoft E-Learning courses and select Microsoft Certification exams at no cost to recipients. Elevate America will be implemented in partnership with states across the country as part of our overall effort to help train 2 million people over the next three years. Microsoft will work with a designated agency in each state to implement Elevate America and ensure that the training benefits are delivered effectively and efficiently.

Monster.com

Monster.com’s  ”Keep America Working Tour” is visiting US cities.  The tour features career experts, tools, and connections.  Monster experts provide the advice and techniques to help job seekers stand out from the crowd in today’s tough job market.  Additionally, job seekers and employers can meet face-to-face.

New York Times

NYT has partnered with Monster.com to post jobs/resumes in the NY Area.

Sallie Mae

Sallie Mae announced that it will create 2,000 jobs by returning its overseas operations to the U.S. Specifically, Sallie Mae will hire call center, information technology, and operations support positions in various communities across the country.

Spherion

Spherion is an online job posting and tracking website at no cost.

Pioneer Natural Resources

Pioneer partnered with Trinidad State Junior College to offer training in Welding, Diesel Mechanics and Heavy Equipment Operations to meet employment needs of the industry and to prepare students for entry-level employment in the field of coal bed methane production and related industrial construction

USG

USG has partnered with Lakefront Supportive Housing, a Chicago-based non-profit organization, by donating products worth more than $130,000 to The USG Job Training and Employment Center. The center features a computer lab, skills center and clothing distribution facility where residents can get clothes for job interviews.

In partnership with SkillsUSA, USG has developed a program called “Constructive Solutions: Building America’s Construction Workforce” to help address the building and construction trades labor shortage.  This annual program gives 40 building trades instructors affiliated with SkillsUSA the opportunity to participate in advanced products courses emphasizing drywall installation and finishing.
